On Wednesday night we had the pleasure of hearing from one of our members about his recent trip overseas. Khurram Khan represented Rotary District 9800 at the Winter Program on United Nations and Global Challenges. This is what he had to say about the experience.

“My trip to Geneva for attending the Winter Program on United Nations and Global Challenges was enlightening and empowering. The program was an intensive academic program designed by the Graduate Institute of Geneva, ran in association with the United Nations office in Geneva.

The program gave me an insight into United Nations and the challenges faced by the world today. It also provided an exchange study experience in a highly intellectual environment, with participants from diverse backgrounds, nationalities and professions.

Moreover, I had the great opportunity to meet diplomats, bureaucrats and academics working in field to resolve global issues. I even met the Rotary’s representative to the United Nations, who was the former Swiss ambassador to Turkey and India.

Lastly, I would like to sincerely thank my club for their extraordinary and generous support for my trip to Geneva.”

Khurram also presented President Des with some banners from the clubs he visited during his time aboard and also a certificate recognising the club’s current focus on increasing the female membership to have a more balanced mix of members. The certificate is already on display in our cabinet and banners will be added to our banner collection.

Khurram was very generous and provided all members and guest a souvenir from his visit in Pakistan and also a sample of Swiss chocolate. Everyone was very grateful for his generosity and for the great presentation he gave of his time overseas.
